James Vicich is an award-winning Professor Emeritus of mathematics. His long teaching career spanning five decades includes secondary, undergraduate, and graduate school experience. He is regarded as a master teacher and has shared his philosophy of active student engagement by designing and teaching graduate courses and professional development projects since 1995.
Vicich’s research is focused on developing productive problem-solving behaviors in both students and teachers. Over the past twenty years Vicich has directed and participated in over $11.5 million of funded professional development, including the Arizona Mathematics Partnership (AMP) funded by the National Science Foundation. He has shared his research findings at local, state, regional, national, and international conferences. He is currently writing a book, The Mathematical Edge (How to put the “+” on your grade of “A”) to be used a resource for teachers, math coaches, students, homeschoolers, and parents. The book is focused on illustrating essential problem-solving strategies and performance skills.
